New WaterWatch site established at Lake Guthridge, Sale

West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) is excited to have established its third educational WaterWatch site. Based out of the Nakunbalook Centre at Lake Guthridge, Sale, the new site is a partnership with the Wellington Shire Council’s sustainability education team. It is intended to provide learning opportunities for students, such as how to monitor waterway health and the value of volunteering. Testing of the site is being completed by primary and TAFE students as part of the Shire’s education program.

This latest site is complimented by two other educational sites in West Gippsland. The Parks Victoria education team at Tidal River has been completing EstuaryWatch testing with students as part of their program for several years now and early last year the Village High School in Dalyston began WaterWatch testing in a nearby creek as part of their VCE Environmental Science curriculum.

All three educational sites are an important part of the WGCMA citizen science program, helping to engage the next generation of natural resource managers who will hopefully continue work to improve catchment health across West Gippsland.
