The initial pH reading was 3.21. Because of uncertianty regarding this very low pH, subsequently the meter was again re-calibrated using standard buffer solutions at pH 4 and pH7, and the pond sample re-tested. This 2nd reading (as recorded above) was 3.37.
This pond had been dry since August 2018. Following the rains of the last couple of days there was sufficient 'liquid' between the caked mud to take a sample. The liquid was scummy and milky/cloudy and obviously abnormal / not normal, but, nevertheless, it was thought that the test results were worth recoding.
