The lake was half empty with extensive areas of mud and water, likely very shallow in the center area of the lake. The exposed lake floor appeared to be mud as opposed to salt pan, which I have seen in the past. There has been an exceptionally dry March with recent rain, about 20mm, making little difference.

Birds

Very few birds on the lake, only magpies and ravens. On the shoreline were magpies, wattlebirds and New Holland Honeyeaters.

Weather. Temperature 19.9C, 13 km/ph south-westerly wind, gusting to 20 km/ph. No rain recorded in the previous week. Observations were taken from the Mt Gellibrand BOM site, the closest site to the lake.
