I noticed a chemical/solvent sort of smell at the site, and also faintly in the sample when I was testing it. So I think the very high Ammonium and Phosphate results are more than mere coincidence. In addition to that, the sample proved to be very frothy when shaken. I had to be very careful when pouring it into the turbidity tube … my first try resulted in such a persistent foamy surface as to make it unreadable. The fact that the readings for Fort Knox were nowhere near as high would indicate that somebody in the industrial area between the two monitoring sites must have discharged something into the drain that they certainly ought not have!
