I had the pleasure of speaking with Neil Tucker, an EstuaryWatch volunteer from Anglesea who has been part of the program for many years. Neil is passionate about EstuaryWatch because he enjoys collecting data that makes a difference.
When I asked Neil about the challenges of being an EstuaryWatch volunteer, he mentioned that there really aren’t any, thanks to the fantastic volunteers that all meet on a monthly basis. His role involves calibrating all the instruments before the team heads out to the estuary. Impressively, in the past two years, Neil hasn’t had to fill in for anyone out on the estuary because the team is so dedicated.
I also asked Neil about potential opportunities for the program. He suggested that adding pollution and algae testing could be valuable. Although the group conducted these tests several years ago, they were discontinued due to high costs.
Thanks Neil for answering my questions!
