8.30 pm there is water in the stream upstream ie the environmental flow is arriving as there has been none here for a long time, raised salinity is typical at the start of an environmental flow that reaches Jeparit. salt on the bank the removal of the boards at the weir has dropped the water level here about 1.5 m and the tree is exposed as are the water plants that were underwater on the banks and had the seedshrimps in them just downstream around the meander there are a large number of birds in the tree across the river : pelicans, spoonbills, ibis, Pacific Black Ducks perhaps eating the seed shrimps as they are pulled by the flow of the water from the weir
