There was 26 mm of rain in the previous 48 hours, after a dry week. The resulting flow overtopped the litter trap and deposited large amounts of litter over the reed beds in the top ponds of the wetlands. Action has at last been taken by Melbourne Water and the EPA, regarding the oil contaminating the Crosby arm and the upper pond of the wetlands. Signs have been placed at access points to the Crosby arm and at the Blackburn Rd access to the wetlands, warning the public to avoid contact with the water, so we did not test those sites. The amount of oil has greatly reduced.
