Major flood on Traralgon Creek one month ago with the level peaking at 5.78 m at the bridge, which was about 30 cm higher than the 2012 flood which was the highest in our experience here. Extensive damage to some properties and to many yards. A number of silver wattles in particular along the creek have come down, with the banks eroded in numerous places. Remarkably, the water is very clear again, as it was before the flood. This water still appears muddy, but the results tell you otherwise!
This flood developed overnight (very unusual as normally it would take 2 or 3 days of continual rain in the hills to the south) after an intense storm with ferocious winds, and the creek rose something like 4 metres in 4 hours. Scary stuff! The creek is at the bottom of our garden, so we were in place to make and record these observations. Have been on our property for 26 years.
